NEWPORT RAPPERS GLC PROMISE "GREAT KNEES-UP"

AS THEY SIGN UP FOR NEWPORTFESTIVAL

The GLC were on hand as the line-up for Newport’s biggest live music event of recent years was announced today (Wednesday 26th July).

The Newport rappers head an impressive line up for the free Crow Point Festival, including renowned DJ, Mr Scruff and leading drum n bass artist Roni Size.

The GLC’S Eggsy said: “There hasn’t been anything like this in Newport for ages. It’s great for the town.  It's a knees-up in Newport -- with those two things you can't go wrong."

Thirty thousand people are expected to attend Crow Point, being held in Coronation Park, Newport, over the weekend of the 16th and 17th September. As well as big names like Asian Dub Foundation, there’ll be a chance to hear old favourites such as The Three Johns, and up-and-coming local acts like Urban Circle. The festival has also launched a search for volunteers from the Newport area to join a hundred person choir that will perform a suite of songs specially composed for the occasion.

John Hallam, Festival Director said: “There’ll be something for everyone at Crow Point. But with such a big festival in Newport we could only really have one headline act: the GLC. We're delighted that the boys are going to join us. With supporting acts like Mr Scruff and Roni Size we're showing that Newport can put on a top show!"

Musical Director Richard King added: "As a Newport boy born and bred I'm very pleased about the event, and hopefully it will be a kickstart for the city to start feeling better about itself."

We have had fantastic support for Newport City Council and an amazing range of business sponsors who have made sure that Crow Point is free so that everyone in Newport can come along.  A special mention to Corus, Uskmouth Power, Hilton Hotels and Rowecord, who have dug really deep to make this happen – and there’s a host of other sponsors who are all doing their bit – its great to see the Newport business community supporting this event!”
