Stewarding at Crow Point

Your chance to gain experience in event management

On September 16th and 17th thousands of people will be attending Crow Point Festival - Newport's free celebration of the centenary of our wonderful Transporter Bridge.

We are now recruiting (voluntary and paid) stewards for the event. If you are interested please complete and return the application form and email it back or bring it along to one of our briefing sessions (see below)

Help us to keep the Festival safe for everyone

Safety is the thing! With a great lineup of local and national main stage and community stage acts, plus special events, shows and all the fun of the fair, Crow Point will be a popular event. We want to make sure it is safe as well! We are now recruiting up to 200 stewards (paid at £6/hour or voluntary) to help us ensure the Festival is safe and happy event for everyone who comes along.

Briefing Session for Stewards - 11th or 13th September

Stewards should attend one of the two briefing sessions we are running at 6.30pm on Monday September 11th or Wednesday 13th September at Coleg Gwent's City of Newport Campus (formerly known as Nash College). You can link to a map for directions to the College here. Go to the College reception when you arrive for directions to the session.

These sessions will be friendly and informal. You will learn the essential information about your role as a steward, be assigned to a team and receive your stewards info pack.

Site Overview for Stewards - Thursday 14th September @ 6pm

Meet outside Corinthians Clubhouse on Stephenson Street for a site overview. We will walk the site and show you the key points for stewards. At 7pm we will rehearse our site evacuation plan which we will use at the end of each evening to clear the site and in the case of a major incident at any other time.

What happens after the Festival is over ......

We all will need a rest after the Festival, but things don't stop there! All stewards will be invited to our crew party in early October. You will also be invited to participate in our festival evaluation to be held at the Newport Hilton on the afternoon of Sunday October 8th. This is a head down session to learn essential lessons from Crow Point for future community events.

One of our aims is to recruit and train a team of event stewards and event managers to help support the safe development of all community events in the City. Over the last few months we have been working with Coleg Gwent and the RISE Partnership to launch an entry-level training course for event stewards in October. ( NSFE Level - 2 Certificate in Event Stewarding. Click here to download course details). Dates and venues are being finalised by Coleg Gwent now and full details will be available at our evaluation session or on request.

Crow Point Encourages Access to Countryside

From the semi-natural ancient woodlands of Coed Wen and Plas Machen to the meadows at Llanmartin and the wet pastures and reen systems of the Levels, Newport has a wealth of habitats and wildlife. You can find out more by meetingNewport's Countryside Team at Crow Point Festival.

One thing you shouldn't miss if you come to the festival by bike is the Newport Wetlands Reserve. The Reserve was created as compensation for the loss of habitat caused by the building of the barrage in Cardiff Bay. Reedbeds, lowland wet grassland, saline lagoons, and saltmarsh have been created over 438.6 ha between Uskmouth and Goldcliff.
